Vermont ranked 50th in the nation for foreclosures, with only one foreclosure for every 62,849 homes, according to a report released by RealtyTrac Thursday. Foreclosures nationwide were down by 9 percent in April from March, and were down 34 percent from April 2010, but RealtyTrac cautioned that the improvement was because of delays in processing foreclosures, not an improved housing market. In April, there were five foreclosed properties repurchased by banks in Vermont, down 16.6 percent from foreclosures in March, and down 58.3 percent from foreclosures in April 2010. Nevada ranks number one for foreclosures in the nation, with one foreclosure for every 97 homes. Arizona, California, Utah and Idaho round out the top five states for foreclosures. RealtyTrac tracks foreclosures online, releasing a U.S. Foreclosure Market Report every month. “Foreclosure activity decreased on an annual basis for the seventh straight month in April, bringing foreclosure activity to a 40-month low,” James Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac, said in a prepared statement.
