Yesterday Twitter announced its new “follow button” in a bid to increase its presence across the web. Now you’ll be able to place the button on your website and allows readers who are logged into Twitter already, to click and follow you instantly! How does this differ from the current method? Well, if you are logged into Twitter already, it will save you the trouble of having to log in, load the desired twitter page and then click the follow button.  If you are not logged into Twitter, the steps remain the same. What is the end goal? According to the official Twitter blog “People who follow your account are much more likely to retweet and engage with your Tweets, and to repeatedly visit your website.” Twitter is claiming the new button is a way for websites to boost their follower counts and increase user engagement. The announcement comes at a time when social players are angling for additional real estate on websites. Larger companies like AOL, CBS, FOX, WordPress, The Wall Street Journal and Yahoo Local have already picked up the Instant Follow button. Interesting Fact: Google launches +1 for websites the day after this announcement.
