A study examining 25 metro areas in the U.S. conducted by Zillow found that the ideal time to put a home on the market is between May 1 and May 15. Homes sold during this time sold for up to 1% more than asking price and nine days faster.

“Many [homebuyers] who started looking for homes in the early spring will still be searching for their dream home months later. By May, some buyers may be anxious to get settled into a new home — and will be more willing to pay a premium to close a deal,” according to Dr. Svenja Gudell, Chief Economist at Zillow.

Saturdays in May in particular are the best days to list a home. Listings that appear on Zillow’s site on Saturday get 20% more views. Saturday is followed by Friday as the second best day to list with properties receiving 14% more views than other days of the week.

It’s important to note that areas with no distinct seasonal weather had little variation in a home’s sale price based on the month, according to the study.

Saturday May 6 and Saturday May 13 are quickly approaching and it might be a chance to sway potential sellers to list their homes!
